This module will focus on the study of dramatic texts of a particular European country and practical approaches to staging their performance through the consideration of aspects of national identity.
Staging Identity: Spain
In this module, we will explore how the dramatic literature of key Spanish writers and their performance histories engage with concepts of national identity both at home and abroad.
The first five weeks will introduce you to a variety of performance languages including; dance, grotesque character, physical scores, choral/ensemble work and song. These languages will engage with concepts of identity in diverse ways. These practices will also be employed in the creation and rehearsal of the final performance which will take place during the five weeks following reading week.
